Lifting weights at the Founders Gym or going for a run outside are excellent ways to hit your weekly fitness quota. One way you can add more fun and safety to your exercise routine is to wear your hearing aids.
The Benefits of Hearing Aids During Your Workout

Hearing aids fit snugly in or behind your ear and deliver amplified speech and helpful environmental noise. A few ways those features can benefit your workout include:
- Improving background awareness. Whether you’re listening for safety sirens and honking cars during a bicycle ride or keeping an ear out for someone shouting “FORE” at the golf course, your hearing aids can bring these newly amplified sounds right to your ears for greater safety.
- Listening to the instructor. Listening to the instructor. If you prefer a group yoga class, your hearing aids can amplify the instructor’s voice so you can catch every step of your workout.
- Streaming music. Many people like to listen to music or podcasts while they work out. Bluetooth® hearing aids can help you do that; by connecting with your phone, you can stream audio directly to your ears for a seamless workout experience.
Keeping your hearing aids safe and clean during and after your workout will ensure they continue to deliver all these amazing benefits.
Caring For Your Hearing Aids
Take the following protective steps to keep your devices in tip-top shape:
- Use a hearing aid retention cord or clip to help keep your devices secure during physical activity
- Establish a regular hearing aid cleaning routine to prevent sweat, earwax and debris from accumulating
- Wear hearing aid sleeves or a sweatband to reduce moisture exposure caused by perspiration
- Remove your hearing aids after exercising and gently wipe them clean and dry; if you plan to shower after a workout, take your hearing aids out beforehand and store them safely
- Consider using a hearing aid dryer or dehumidifier overnight to help protect your devices from moisture damage
The Centers for Disease Control recommends that you get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise and 2 days of muscle-strengthening activity each week.[1] Adding hearing aids to your workout routine will help you stay safe in your surroundings, understand class instructions and enjoy every song on your playlist.
